Fashion is something that is ever changing and is entirely subjective. It’s like art in the sense that it’s a way for people to express themselves freely. Whoever you are and whatever you look like, there are no hard and fast rules surrounding what you can and can’t wear. You’re free to wear whatever you like!
That being said, there are some items of clothing that suit different body shapes. If you’re plus sized and are looking for some inspiration in terms of what clothes might complement your body shape, keep reading – but bear in mind everything looks good when you wear it with confidence!
Maxi Dress
No body type rocks a maxi dress quite like a plus sized body! Maxi dresses are timeless, always look elegant and strike the perfect balance between form and function. They’re movable, freeing and still retain a certain aspect of femininity. To really complement the beauty of the dress, it’s worth wearing a belt around the waist. This will give the illusion of a small waist and more hourglass figure. Plus, a belt is a great accessory to any dress, especially a block color dress that doesn’t have much going on in the way of a pattern. You can buy cute dresses from Canada and pair them with sandals and some flamboyant earrings and you’ll look like a fashion icon.
Flared Sleeves
No matter what your body shape or size, flared sleeves look good. Whether it’s a long-sleeved playsuit or a flouncy blouse, flared sleeves can add a little spice to any outfit. If you’re heading out for a night on the town, a flared sleeve shaper bodysuit paired with skinny jeans and heels will ensure that everyone's attention is drawn to you as soon as you enter the room. For extra pizzazz, pop a sparkly bracelet or watch on to garner more interest when people get a flash of your wrists.
Pleated Skirts
The media will have you believe that plus sized people can’t wear bright colors or patterns because it will highlight their body shape. Well, this is wrong for two reasons:
- Plus sized bodies aren’t something that should be covered and concealed/made to look smaller all the time
- It’s almost impossible for people to show their personality and express themselves when they’re constantly told the only color they can wear is black
If you’re plus size and want to find a way to incorporate bright colors and patterns in a way that complements your body type, pleated skirts are a go to. A plain top and contrasting skirt always look good together. What’s more, this is a great option for all times of the year, but especially summer when you might be chaffing due to the heat because you can wear some comfy shorts underneath which will allow you to live in comfort.
Beachwear
Gone are the days where plus sized people are told to cover up at the beach. Embrace those curves in a flattering plus size swimwear for ladies! If you feel comfortable wearing a sarong/cover up, then more power to you, but don’t feel like you have to wear one. There are plenty of options out there that will flatter your body size; namely swimsuits., but bikini’s are back on the table! High waisted bikini bottoms look good on everyone, especially larger ladies.
Buying a bikini gives you the option to buy a more supportive top (underwired), giving you the support you need whilst also looking good.
In terms of swimsuits, there are lots to choose from. They’re no longer boxy and filled in; many have attractive cut outs which add a playful dynamic. Moreover, diamond and triangle shaped cutouts can create the illusion of a more flattering waistline (not that there’s anything wrong with what you already have).
Add on a big sunhat and some stylish sunglasses and you’ll be the belle of the beach in no time.
Shoes
Shoes are as much a part of an outfit as the clothes, but they require a bit more thought because they need to be comfortable above anything else. Heels are a good option for everyone, especially plus size women because they make the ankles look slimmer and the legs look longer. Plus, they take any outfit from day to night instantly.
Although they look good, they don’t always feel good. If you have wide feet, round heels are a good option (even though everyone says they’re not) because they offer plenty of stability and support. Likewise, wedges always look good if you struggle with walking in any other type of heel.
Summary
These are just a few suggestions, but you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. Remember, the key to looking good is to wear your clothes with confidence! Confidence gives you an undeniable glow and is the best thing a person can wear.
