Pumpkin Party
What is Halloween without pumpkins? Pumpkins are not available all year round. Thankfully, they are plentiful during this season. Get a bunch of them. Carve them into monsters or anything you like. You can even bake pumpkin pies!
Do you know how the use of pumpkins was incorporated into Halloween? The Celtic festival Samhain was celebrated at the end of summer and the start of the new year on November 1 in ancient Britain and Ireland. It was thought that during Samhain, the souls of people who had died the previous year departed to the otherworld, while other spirits returned to their homes. This celebration later came to be known as “Halloween.”
According to Irish mythology, Jack was a blacksmith who had repeatedly tricked the devil. According to legend, Jack was denied admission to both heaven and hell when he died.
When the devil turned him away, he handed him a smoldering ember. Jack hollowed out a turnip to transport the ember and supply him with light. To remember the story, the Irish would cut scary faces on turnips and place a flaming piece of coal inside.
With time, people started using candles instead of coal and pumpkins instead of turnips. And that is how jack-o-lanterns came into being. So are you carving your own pumpkin Jack-O-lantern this Halloween?
Go Crazy with Costumes
Halloween has to be celebrated by wearing costumes. Halloween costumes can be easily bought online, thanks to technology. But nothing beats the fun of creating your own. Get a costume for yourself and your family. All of you can dress up as the Addams family or as different individuals. You are free to choose!
You can be a zombie, a vampire, a skeleton, a ghost, a fairy, a witch a warlock, or anything else you want for this day! Put on crazy makeup and make yourself look as scary as you can! You can even wear spooky contact lenses to look scarier and wrap up your look completely. Make sure to add accessories; for example, if you are dressing up as a witch, you can carry a broom or a wand. Accessories complement your look. The best part is since it is Halloween, you can wear the costume anywhere you want. Yes, ANYWHERE!
What About a Scare?
Imagine the look on your best friend’s face when they are chilling and then you jump out of nowhere wearing a “Scream” mask! Your friend will probably fall off their seat and have a great scare.
There is no better time other than Halloween to pull on a scary prank on someone. Go hide behind something and pull off a jump scare on your friends and family. No one will get angry at you for this, but be warned, they may try to scare you back and catch you off guard too!
Watch a Scary Movie
With the Halloween spirit in the air, watching a scary movie feels way scarier than watching it at a different time. If you like the comfort of your home, you can always call your friends over and have a scary movie night with warm popcorn and dim lights, creating the perfect mood!
This is a great idea if you are busy and have no one to go out with. Turn off your lights, let the cold air sweep in, and watch the movie alone. Do this, and we promise you that you will not feel lonely anymore! Check out a list of spooky movies here.
Trick or Treat
Halloween is incomplete without trick or treating. Grab a friend and plan your route. Now walk from door to door and fill your bags with some yummy candies. And you know what to do if there is no candy. You go tricking! Let the mischievous child in you come out and do harmless mischief with the owner just for fun.
Trick or treating is most fun when you have a costume on. Although this is more popular among children, this does not, in any way, mean that an adult cannot have fun too! So don’t hold yourself back. Did you know that during Halloween alone, one-quarter of all the candy manufactured is sold in the US? Don’t miss out on the chance to make your sweet tooth happy.
To Conclude
Halloween is one of the most fun and desired holidays for many. The food, the fun, the lanterns on every lawn, and the smell of spookiness are what make a lot of people wait for October 31st. Just because it is one day, it does not mean you cannot get into the Halloween spirit now!
Start decorating your house, carving out pumpkins, and making your costumes. The best thing amidst all the fun is bonding with your neighbors and friends. Celebrate to the fullest, but make sure to stay safe. Happy Halloween!
