In a busy world, each working day can seem endless, and yet you still leave every evening (or sometimes late at night) with your to-do list even longer than it was when you arrived that morning. When you have a whole week of this, or even longer, you’ll need something to reward yourself for staying the course, and to set you up for the week ahead.
A Weekend Movie or TV Binge
With finishing late at work every night, it might feel like the world is passing you by. You might be missing out on all your favorite shows, and any of the films you wanted to see at the cinema are now no longer available on the big screen but can be seen on one of the many premium streaming services. If this is the case, then you have the perfect weekend of ‘downtime’ for you in one easy move.
This is particularly useful if you like things involving dragons and hobbits, or superheroes and spaceships, as there seems to be an endless supply to keep you going. If you prefer crime procedurals, then you are equally well catered for, and could even decide to take more than one weekend to take in all the seasons. Either way, it provides complete escapism and clears your mind of everything that has been clogging it up all week at work.
Treat Yourself to an Experience Day
If you’ve had a particularly bad week, you probably think that some sort of treat is in order. Although you might have to wait a few days or weeks for it to happen, rewarding yourself with one of the many Experience gifts available could be exactly what you need. Even if you don’t fancy a pamper day (or that’s what you did last time), you could go for afternoon tea, a brewery or whisky tasting, or even opt for a Lamborghini experience, to blow off some steam (after training, of course).
This might not, for obvious reasons, happen quite as often as a movie binge weekend, but can act as something to look forward to as you count down the days until it happens. A well-planned day like this will live a lot longer in the memory than what happens in the office.
Become a Domestic God or Goddess
This might not be to everybody’s taste, but doing housework or cooking can be very therapeutic, and can certainly help you unwind. A cleaning frenzy can also double as a workout and seeing the results can give you a sense of achievement. There is also the bonus that you get to walk into a nice, tidy home for the next week, which matters a lot more than you might think.
Cooking, especially batch cooking, has other benefits too. Rather than just making one awesome meal (although that certainly is an option), making a big pot of a comfort food favorite can mean you have good, homemade food waiting for you when you get in. This could be a lot better for your health and your bank balance than opting for takeout on nights when you are too worn out to cook (which is probably most nights).
To Wrap Everything Up
If you’ve had a bad week, you need a well-earned pick-me-up to look forward to. This can be a cleaning or cooking frenzy, or just batten down the hatches and watch TV. If things are tough, you could opt for something like an experience day, which will provide a necessary highlight that you so badly need.
